Finally got one of the new Louisiana Purchase commemorative nickels recently. (A nickel is a five-cent piece in the US, for those of you who don't know what the hell I'm talking about.) I think they're pretty neat (better than Monticello, at least), although I'm not sure if the symbolism of having an American military officer shaking hands with a native American quite accurately reflects the relationship they shared following the annexation of the territory. Pretty to look at though. And apparently the special design is going to be rotated to a Lewis and Clark commemorative design later on this year, so continue to keep an eye out. The treasury may be overdoing it a bit since they already have the state quarters going, but I'm still interested in the unique designs. Here's the US mint's page on the new nickels, in case you haven't seen them (the nickels).

No wonder our economy is in the hole, our treasury leaders are spending their time on the nickel instead of a way to counterfiet some good money. The Iraqi governing council needs to be funded somehow

Along with probably ninety percent of the country, I started collecting the state quarters when they came out years ago. Then I needed some change, didn't have anything else, and spent my collection. Since that day I've never tried to collect coins again. Besides, my state quarter isn't coming out for another four years. Annoying.
I haven't seen the nickels but I stopped paying attention to most coin designs. We aren't that far away from a treasury so new things usually get here quickly enough.

I have often wondered if all this coin hoarding, under the guise of collecting, is really a discrete method of inflating an economy by flooding it with coinage that will (almost) never be spent... unless, of course, like Tar A you do spend your collection. The supply appears high on paper but will be low in practice.

No wonder our economy is in the hole, our treasury leaders are spending their time on the nickel instead of a way to counterfiet some good money. The Iraqi governing council needs to be funded somehow Here in Canada, we had like a new quarter design for every month in 2001 (I believe), meaning we had a quarter for January, February, etc. In 2000, we had a new quarter for every province and territory. And then in 2002, we had quarters come out with a new design for with words like "strength", "integrity", "prosperity", etc. Oh, and there was also a new dime designed in for only 2001, for the "Year of the Volunteer". Only our treasury is complied of dumbasses and they decided to make this 2001 dime weigh less, and no vending machines accept them. And every little while they release special collector's coins, like "Harry Potter" coins, or "Shrek" coins.....it's so dumb.... </rant> ;D

What I can't stand is how people hord novel money so it never gets to the people. I'd LOVE to use dollar coins, but nobody spends the Sacageweas cause their a pretty yellow. And the two dollar bill is perfect for betting at the racetrack, but you can't get your hands on them.

I haven't seen one of those in ages...maybe even a year or two. the problem was that soda machines wouldn't take them.

We must purify our bodies to be in our best state for the Revolution. For, how can we keep our region independent of foreign imperialists if we cannot keep our own selves independent?

I prefer to collect baseball cards. In fact, they may become the new currency in my nation!
