I'm not shamed....and you must be gay, married *sometimes*, or really religious not to look at porn.

Just finished 'The Life of Pi' by Yann Martel, fantastic book.
Some of my favorites... The Man in the High Castle by Phillip K Dick. Great Apes by Will Self, (a Kafka-like tale). A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Nikolai Gogol's Diary of a madman and other Stories. Zen and the Art of Mototcycle Maintenance by Robert M Pirsig (about a third of this book is meaningless but the other two thirds are a pleasure, great insights). and Excession by Iain M Banks.

Good choice! Have you read any of his other works?

Most of them ;D I picked TMitHC because I love alternate history and it's probably one of the few PKD novels that's complete with a proper ending. In most of his other stories the concepts are so engaging I usually forgive him the tacked on endings.
The best thing about PKD is that when you first discover how good he is you also discover that he was the definition of a prolific writer so you have stacks of books to enjoy, got any favourites yourself?

Every time I go book store hopping, I whisper exactly the same thing to myself: "Thank God Philip K Dick was such a prolific writer!" My personal favorites are Deus Irae (with Roger Zelazny, another favorite author of mine), Flow My Tears The Policeman Said, and Lies, Inc (that's the name of my current UN nation actually ).

And now they are on my list, I've been picking up the short story collections and I thought I had most of them but checking here, I see I have a few more to go ;D Another thing I love is all the pre-microchip automation, he'll design human simulacra so perfect that nobody (not even the simulacra), would guess It's not human, but it's always programmed from magnetic tape or punch cards and stuffed with wires and motors, It's a wonderfull mish mash of technologies, really though it's all about social comment, he has a gift of taking the familiar and placing it in such a surreal setting that you don't immediately recognise it. *tests NS for available PKD based nations*
