Hi, my name is Shyla and I am new here. I don't know much about this game yet but would like to participate alot! I have a few questions 1. Can someone help me get a good flag? I have seen some really neat ones and want one for my nation too. 2. What is the United Nations do in this game? Is it like the real United Nations? I have been getting telegrams from people who want me to move somewhere else, & some tell me to join the UN, but one person told me it messes up your nation and freedoms and stuff. 3. Does each region have a government? How does this all work and how can I help? I see people posting about the government and Hailing Franco (our leader I think) but I am just confused!! Everyone here has been very nice and I want to thank you all for helping me. Your new friend Shyla

Dear shyla, 1) What do you want on your flag? We have many people proficient in flag making, so please go to the flag services thread and make a request. 2) The UN allows you to vote on UN resolutions, but they affect your nation. Generally, you will become slightly socialist when you join the UN, but you do get to endorse people and submit UN proposals 3) Please read the FAQAlso, please post in existing threads if your topic already exists as to not clutter up the forum. Thanks.

The region "The East Pacific" runs a flagmaking service, although it appears this one does as well. invisionfree.com/forums/The_East_Pacific/index.php?showforum=92. Joining the UN will allow you to vote in Resolutions and vote for a Delegate (if you so wish). It will also make your nation affected by its Resolutions. Delegates have additional powers and responsibilities in the UN, including voting for Proposals, maintaining World Factbook Entries, and manning ejection and password controls (unless the region has a founder). 3. Basically, it's a very authoritarian government. There's not much else (at least for me) to say. Other regions have different forms of government, ranging from absolute despotism to full democracy.

Strange, I wrote an essay on the impossibility of acheiving true democracy in my politcs exam yesterday. I tend to agree Sonicoa

The ASE (Allied States of EuroIslands) claim to have a "true democracy", although I am uncertain how this would function within the game dynamics.

I highly doubt there are many regions that can honestly boast they are a "true" democracy Just the New Meritocracy, actually. Which will suffice, although even they might not count...

Actually there are a few democratic regions out there...
The New Meritocracy Allied States of EuroIslanders USSR (well, they have elections) New Sparrow Sardaukar Confederacy (I think)
But why would you want a democratic region here anyway? It is so much simpler to let the Delegate make the decisions for the region.

You can't have a democratic meritocracy. It doesn't work.
The NPO is a meritocracy, though.

If a nation joins the United Nations it can endorse another nation in the UN. A nation with the most endorsements in a region then becomes the delegate of that region.
A brief history of founders By Mammothistan
A long, long time ago (like, > 53 weeks ago) there was no such thing as a regional founder. The most powerful nation in the region was the UN delegate, but then the only power the UN delegate had was the ability to change the world factbook entry and endorse UN proposals.
At the end of April 2003, new regional controls were added and the position of founder was created. These controls were the ability to eject members of a region and put up a password. From then on, any new region then had a founder, who was the nation that created the region.
Already-made regions could petition the moderators (who are like the police/gods of the game and do all sorts of stuff) to give that region a founder. These founders were often the nation that created the region originally, or another nation (sometimes the original founder had ceased to exist) that had performed some extraordinary distinguished service for the region over a very long period of time -in other words, "might as well be the founder."
Founders are nations that have the greatest control over a region. They don't have to be in the UN to have regional controls and are "over the heads" of UN delegates because a founder can turn "off" regional control access to a UN delegate.
"Super regions", like the Pacifics and the Rejected Realms, do not have founders and the greatest power is the UN delegate. The Rejected Realms is unique in that its delegate does not have the ability to eject any nation from the region, because the Rejected Realms is the region that ejected nations from other regions end up.
