I was wondering what the general consensus was of Nation States as it is today relative to a year ago. I and very many other people had been noting a decline in participation and an exodus of "famous" players and even moderators.
New nations however continue to be created and for these, the experience should be as new and exciting was it was for all of us in the beginning. Thus Nation States is not without "renewal."
What could we do to breathe more life into Nation States and it's related off-site fora? What trends do we see forming? In what manner would we want to influence Nation States?
My own observations and opinions I'll save for later as this is more of a broad spectrum query of everyone.

I consider myself lucky to have found an offsite community that fills in the gaps that the regular NS community has. The RPing on the forum by the newer nations is often too formulaic (not I n00k j00! fortunately), and I don't know the older nations well enough. That's what I love the Meritocracy so much

One of the most infamous source of some of the most infamous nations is still going strong. I think Louldamin and Martin Luther King Jr both will be topping 3 Billion in a week or two. Too bad nobody knows why those nations are infamous anymore. I mean im no longer like that with my nations anymore but it was nice to be well known even if it was for bad things.

There there, its a different NS world now. Most of us left over from the glory days have little patience for the patently one tracked minds of the new kids who can't see any other view but their own on utopian democracy. They wouldn't have survived in the beginning when there was one mod, 20 000 nations per Pacific, forums inaccessible from the high demand and invaders slashing and burning everywhere. It was a different game when it was still the open frontier. Now we get to adjust to life since its been civilized. No worries, I know you very well- we've been in opposite trenches from time to time. Rather miss those days.

Well as to what I believe will be the future of the game. A few of us die hards will be around for a while longer but after we leave it will fall into n00b insanity until Max says this is retarded now-f*ck it.It is groups like the NPO and Meritocracy that keep some of the best and oldest nations around-keeps us busy. The same benefit can be found from the ADN. One of the couple things they are good for.

the game is slowly decaying, and honestly the very people set to protect it are so far a contributing factor, I speak both of the Mods and teh Defenders, the Invader facet was dying off however teh defenders in their own way are keeping it alive and therefore making each succesive generation more vicious.
the mods in the fact that they are out to protect the players and end up mostly protecting the RPers, and they seem unable to take into consideration that they have to serve teh balance not allow one side to grow larger. they need to be impartial and seperate from teh group they gaurd however they are all recruited from teh Rper cadre and therefore that is what they seek to promote and aid. they also need to not be tied to a naiton, the moderators accounts need to be impartial, and seperate, they also need to be held Publicly accountable, the back room hand slapping sessions that occure, are self defeating as they say, to the player that is, "we dont are about you, if X did soething wrong, then only we know if he was even punished"
if for example Great King Hoobadoo were to break the rules and illegally delete a player for teh good of the ADN, ie a legit invader delegate who was following the rules exactly, so that the defenders were able to take a region, then she should be tried by Max in teh backroom, and her punishment stated publicly. so that all the wronged and everyone else can see. the we take care of our own system used right now only leads to speculation about corruption.
also teh moderators are currently promoted out of the moderators choices for new members only, this is also a program tha needs to be changed, Max needs to promote mods elected to govern the players by the players, Yes an ingame screening needs to be used so as to keep out corrupt players, who may become spoilt by the power, but I eel this could work, Also, Moderators should be removed after a time, they will begin to get too set in their ways if they serve without term limits, they can become cozy in their positions and lax to being fair.
my hands are hurting right now from typing, (arthritis in one, lol) so Im gonna quit typing for the moment, if you have any querries feel free to ask me.

Hmm, well I made my first nation about the beginning of November '03 and the game seems a lot different since then. Everything seems to be settled down, civilized I think someone called it, and just sort of 'blah'.
If I'm reading Loop right, we should have a sort of moderator Senate with a bit of corruption (to "thank" their supporters) but not too much (to where they start ruling with an iron fist). I think I like that idea. It would add that bit of competition that I think NS is missing.
