Today's issue for our communal puppet, everyone please feel free to lodge your vote and participate in the debate. (Dilemma #64) - "Put the 'Board' Back in Board of Education" The IssueThe The New Pacific Order Teachers' Union, complaining of a steady increase in student disciplinary problems, wants to be able to use corporal punishment to correct misbehavior. The Debate- Option 1: "Clearly, parents aren't teaching manners at home," says Jack Utopia, the union president. "All we want is to be able to take a paddle to their backsides when there are problems. It's not like we want to throw the kids in jail."
- Option 2: "Keep your hands off my kids!" shouts Buffy McGuffin, while protesting outside of union headquarters. "If there's a problem, it's with the teachers not having the skills to do their jobs. They should be tested for qualifications!"
- Option 3: "Corporal punishment would only treat a symptom of the bigger problem: our education system is in need of an overhaul," says Hope Steele, The New Pacific Order's education minister. "We need smaller class sizes, more teachers, better buildings, and better pay. It'll cost, but it'll pay off in the long run."
- Option 4: "Why don't we just abolish the schools and home-school the kids?" asks Steffan Longbottom, education coordinator for the The New Pacific Order First Omnimenical Church. "That way parents can stress the values they want their kids to have and give them the attention they need."

Beating is good for a child. It teaches them to hit, and then they in turn become violent. With violent people, it becomes difficult to invade a nation, because every one is on edge and armed. If Cuba invaded the United States, it would probably tie up my morning communte, with tanks driving down the freeway, so I'd get pissed-off and violent. Castro wouldn't get past Corpus Christi.
Option 1 all the way!

I was paddled as a kid in school and I turned out fine.

I too was spanked as a child in school and it taught a valuable lesson. Actions have consequences. People today want to "talk" to children and reason with them. This is absurd. This is the reason children in todays society have no manners and no respect. A paddling a day just for good measure is best...
Option #1

As a teacher, I can tell you that you can get respect and teach it without having to hit. Option 3 is what we need.

I vote option one. I was never beat in school because I've never had any behavioral issues, so to speak. My parents took care of that at a young age (best way), but if parents can't do it, then somebody should!
