Today's issue for our communal puppet, everyone please feel free to lodge your vote and participate in the debate. (Dilemma #89) - "'Don't Dam Our Rivers, Damnit!' Say Protesters" The IssueA group of Greenpeace protesters have called for an end to a government proposal to begin damming rivers in The New Pacific Order to increase water supplies and generate power. The Debate- Option 1: "Don't build dams!" shouts protestor Falala Fellow through a microphone heavily afflicted with feedback. "Do you know how many fish die in other dams in our region each year? Have you heard of the adverse effects building a dam has on the surrounding environment? Dam up this flood of dams, damn it!"
- Option 2: "Think before you open your mouth," says engineer Steffan Bush. "While The New Pacific Order may have to pay the price in animal diversity, as well as adverse effects on the environment, do we really want fossil-fuel based plants polluting The New Pacific Order? If you use your common sense, I think you'll find that damming some rivers would be a good idea. Plus, think of how much the economy would benefit from all the jobs these projects would create."

If we must go a single option, I vote option two. I had this issue once, and I believe a I chose option 2, and my economy really didn't do anything(in a puppet nation, not Jennivier), but if you need an economic boost, go for option 2. As one might be able to see, I thrive for economic power, and I'm not affraid to give-up certain things for it, like animals .

I vote dismiss. This issue is silly and has no real effect. It would have been better done with a more moderate third option.

Yeah but the whole theme of the game is parody. If anything some of the player-created-issues have been too moderate.
Anyway, option 2.

Dams have a way of ruining a lot of peoples' lives. In the early half of the 20th century, the US wanted to set up a lot of dams that would have driven many native Americans off of what prime land they had on some of the reservations. Yes, dams can provide clean power, but there has to be quite a bit of other considerations.
So, in my Marxist tradition, I shall once again vote to dismiss this wrong and obvious capitalist decree to build more dams.

You filthy red barbarian! (The most diplomatic phrase I could think of)
Now, seriously, I must disagree with Comrade Thorin. The benefits of hydroelectrical power (in terms of the environment as well) outweigh by much the needs of ecology of the location.

I think Option 1, hydroelectric power is clean and will lower pollution.

mussolandia, they really don't. damns are pretty bad ways of dealing with the problem, and they only increase it as more are built. I don't understand it, we were a bunch of tree huggers in the oil issue but now we want to flood valleys? All right, lol...
