While working on a resolution related to capital punishment it has come to our attention that some NationStates are of the following mentality:
“Murder, Killing, Termination, Capital Punishment, whatever you want to call it, they are just words used to describe basically the same thing: ending the life of a human being.”
AP wants NS to know the implications of such beliefs, and collect feedback to aid in our writing of the proposal.
Based on these comments, and communication, AP has developed the following premises and conclusions:
P1. :A human being is a living organism containing a complete Homo sapien genetic code. Containing, transcribing, and translating the genetic sequence of a homo sapien.
P2. Human fetuses contain an entire human genetic code. Containing, transcribing, and translating the genetic sequence of a homo sapien.
P3. Life is having Order (Complex organization), the ability to grow & develop, the ability to utilize energy, be responsive to the environment, and maintain homeostasis. A growing responding organism is alive. *
C1. Human fetuses are living human beings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P4. Killing is the termination of life.
P5. “ Murder, Killing, Termination, Capital Punishment, whatever you want to call it, they are just words used to describe basically the same thing: ending the life of a human being.”
C2. Killing a human fetus is murder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P6. Clinical abortion is the willful killing of a human fetus
C3. Abortion is Murder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P7. UN Resolution on Abortion Rights: all women shall have the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not, no member nation will interfere with a woman's right to have an abortion.
C4. The UN Condones Murder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P8. CP is killing and therefore Murder (Premise 5)
P9. UN Past Precedent condones killing/murder
C6. For the UN to Ban CP because it is Murder requires a repeal of Abortion Rights.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This argument does not represent the views of AP. We are simply presenting the logical outcome of illogical concepts.
The preceding argument is valid. However, AP does not agree with what has been written because AP does not consider it to be sound. This is because AP does not consider P5 to be true.
There are now only 2 possibilities.
1. Accept that abortion is murder.
2. Disagree with P5, and conclude that there is clearly a difference between murder and killing.
Sidenote:
“There are some that will hide behind legal definitions, and when the definitions don't suit their needs will change those definitions.”
AP does not hide behind definitions- we use them to communicate concepts. It is when you try to lump different concepts (Murder, Killing, Termination, Capital Punishment) that you commit a major fallacy in judgment.
*Note of clarification: A fetus does not function as a fully capable, fully independant, human person (sentient). But, these are not qualifications for life. A fetus is a living organism, as are bacteria, protozoa, and parasites.
