Here's my 2 cents on the effects: italics indicates what I think should be deleted from Tar A's original effects list, and bold indicates my little additions.
Options:
[option]"I try to do something out of the goodness of my heart, and look what happens!" exclaims Mr. Kringle while wearing a black and white prison jumpsuit with a jolly red hat. "It's time for the government to relax these paranoid trespassing laws to allow for more random acts of kindness like mine." [effect]laws against trespassers have been greatly relaxed [stats] political freedom increases civil rights increases , Law&Order receives less funding , crime increases (I have high police funding but a high crime rate, and w/ B&E Legal? God help us) Happiness increases , compassion increases.
[option]"This goes to show how deluded our society has become," says Citizens for Firmly Rooted Reality spokesperson, E. B. Scrooge. "We need to outlaw Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too for that matter." [effect]popular children's myths are repressed [stats]intelligence increases (the myths aren't real, so they become smarter, right?), happiness decreases, civil rights go down economy goes down (no Xmas shopping season). retail sector decimated
[option]"Free Santa Claus!" shouts protest organizer @@randomname@@, handing out "I Believe" pins, bumper stickers, and yard signs. "Don't be a grinch, make Christmas year-round!" [effect]Christmas is zealously celebrated all year [stats] civil rights increase (again maybe) , public apathy decreases, happiness increases, economy increases, retail sector dramaticaly increases
[option]"This Kris Kringle clearly has a case of severe delusion, basically causing him to believe he is a mythical character," says Dr. @@randomname@@ of @@name@@'s Psychiatric Association. "It is possible to treat such cases, but it will require more funding." [effect]education goes up (only industry I could find even remotely related to psychology), retail sector increases , intelligence increases, economy increases , taxes increase
[option]"He must be a communist subversive revolutionary (there are communist nations)!" says your Head of Military @@randomname@@. "His kind should be rooted out and deported to camps, if they're not shot at sight, at least!" [effect]any abnormal behavior is severely punished [stats]Law&Order receives more funding, happiness decreases, compassion decreases, political freedoms decrease
[option]"Yet another example of a Holy Day being perverted and debased by commercialism," says your religious advisor, Cardinal @@randomname@@. "Our nation must not permit this pagan tradition to continue poisoning our people. Imprison Kringle and return Christmas to us as it was meant to be - the birth of our Lord." [effect]Christmas celebrations are strictly regulated [stats]Religion & Spirituality receives more funding, Law&Order receives more funding, devoutness increases, retail sector decimated, economy decreases
As for which one I'm voting for, I like 'em all!

Holy shit, we forgot about this thread! I was pretty optimistic about this idea back in December, and I apologize for not trying to keep it going. Anyway, I went back over the ideas we came up with over three months ago and finally shipped it off to the mods. Thanks to everyone who contributed! (Especially Brezhnev). In case you're curious, here's what the finished product looked like: Name:Santa in the Slammer? Description:Last Christmas Eve, a man identifying himself as "Kris Kringle" was arrested and charged with breaking and entering after descending the chimney of a house while the owner was sleeping. He has since been awaiting trial, but now pleads for the charges to simply be dropped. Validity(Valid for all nations) Options:[option]"I try to do something out of the goodness of my heart, and look what happens!" exclaims Mr. Kringle while wearing a black and white prison jumpsuit with a jolly red hat. "I mean, I was only there to give them a few gifts, honest! It's time for the government to relax these paranoid trespassing laws to allow for more random acts of kindness like mine." [effect]a government ban on doorlocks has led to a wave of burglaries [stats]civil rights increases, crime increases [option]"This just goes to show how deluded our society has become as a result of parents teaching myths as truth to our youngsters," says Citizens for Firmly Rooted Reality spokesperson, @@randomname@@. "We need to outlaw Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny too for that matter." [effect]popular children's myths are repressed [stats]intelligence increases, happiness decreases, civil rights decreases slightly [option]"Free Santa Claus!" shouts protest organizer @@randomname@@, while handing out "I Believe" pins, bumper stickers, and yard signs. "Don't be a grinch, make Christmas year-round!" [effect]radio stations can be found playing Christmas music year-round [stats]devoutness increases slightly, happiness increases [option]"Yet another example of a holy day being perverted and debased by commercialism," remarks religious advisor Cardinal @@randomname@@. "Our nation must not permit this pagan degradation to continue poisoning our people. Imprison Kringle and return Christmas to the way it was meant to be -- a celebration of the birth of our Lord." [effect]holiday celebrations are strictly regulated [stats]devoutness increases, economy suffers ----------------- Now, it probably could have been a little better, but I think it's still good enough to make the cut given the current standards. If it's indeed accepted, it probably won't be for a while, as I noticed that one of the newest issues was submitted by a nation who no longer exists, so I guess the mods and Max don't get these into action in a hurry. Any ideas for another issue? Maybe we can get the next one off the assembly line a little quicker this time around

Hmm, the mods are working on issues from last November right now. I might try to bribe Sirocco to look at ours though. He likes olives.... ;D

Most potent commendatore Franco:
The NS server does not allow me to look at current NS issues, yet I do believe none of the ones discussed so far deals with abortion.
Is it a taboo subject? I do believe it is important, though.

No it's not taboo... it's probably just that no one has submitted a decent abortion issue... if you want to try to write a good one I'd definitely say you should.

You probably don't want to make the choices two extremes ("kill the baby-killers", etc.). An issue on a one-child policy (like China's) could be interesting, though.

Its a pity the issues are not more dynamic. If you go for the one child option, it should decimate your pop. growth in a few months. Isues dont affect pop. though.

Is anyone else still giving the possibility of extending this idea, any thought?
