Our presence is merely to stabilize the chaos so everyone can play nicely and talk which to date they've rebuffed all feelers with insane, unrealistic demands which only show how out of touch with their actual position they are.

No, it means when they are presented with a compromise that's realistic given the situation they are making incredibly insane demands which show a lack of understanding they are in no position to be doing so.
